Five Islands School Out of "Special Measures"

Document Actions
After a week of gruelling inspection by Her Majesty's Inspectorate for Schools (known as HMI) the Five Islands school has been taken out of the "Special Measures" category (indicating underperformance) that it has been in.

A huge congratulations to all staff, teaching or otherwise, pupils and indeed parents in achieving this goal for which we have been fighting for so long. Until the final report is published (and made available to the public) we are not allowed to quote from the inspectors debriefing. I can say, however, that the report was a glowing one and that the school has been recognised as "very good" in many areas. Pupils' attitudes to learning, behaviour and maturity were praised as was the commitment and professionalism of staff.

I think a large amount of credit is also due to those parents of pupils in the school who have supported the school through its difficult times and formed that vital "3rd corner" of the pupil-parent-teacher triangle.

Particular congratulations and thanks are also due to Mr. John Evans whose leadership was recognised as vital in steering the school through its difficulties and who's input will be directly mentioned in the final report.

The final report is expected within 4-6 weeks.
