Miss Gates' Seattle Class
- Susanna Gates from the Tresco base spent a term on in a Seattle elementary school as part of an exchange. She was particularly worried when nearby Mount St. Helens started to erupt and the children had to practise earthquake drill!

Five Islands School Out of "Special Measures"
- After a week of gruelling inspection by Her Majesty's Inspectorate for Schools (known as HMI) the Five Islands school has been taken out of the "Special Measures" category (indicating underperformance) that it has been in.

Pupil Exchange Programme
- Isabelle Belveze, from the College Andre Albert, recently visited the school for three days to meet staff and pupils and progress the application for this Programme. She visited Carn Gwaval, Carn Thomas and Tresco giving power point presentations. We hope to hear in March if the application is successful.

Black History Month
- In October the Five Islands School celebrated Black History Month. The highlights of the month included a visit by Usifu Jalloh who spent a week here running West African drumming, dance and storytelling workshops. He visited all bases teaching high energy drumming routines which pupils performed for their parents and other pupils. Pupils also learned about African culture, customs, geography and history.

Lunch at Tresco Base!
- Children at the Tresco Base cooked lunch for their parents last week. They wrote the menu, place name cards and waited on their parents/grandparents. Lovely!

Screen Printing at Tresco Base
- Following on from the African theme in school, parents and the wider community were invited to Tresco Primary Base for a day to learn screen printing methods. They made a collaborative banner and then produced their own banner using the methods learnt. Everyone enjoyed the day.

Change Of Date For End Of Term
- Please note that contrary to the published end of term date there will now be no school on Monday 31st July 2007. The end of term will be on Friday 27th July with the new school year starting on Tuesday 4th September.
